DEADLINE EXTENDED! CALL FOR WORK:
Nomadic zine project Gender as Collage / El Genero como Collage is collecting art for its 6th issue, "Paintings of all of us — brilliant women talking about rape again." The zine will reprint my essay "Paintings I Won't Paint," which imagines a project of collecting visual representations of all those common yet invisible moments when women find themselves engaged in the work of talking about rape. Along with the essay, the zine will publish collage art depicting bird's-eye-view scenes of such moments.
You can submit your bird's-eye-view collage to be included in the zine by May 15 by emailing high-res scans to firstname.lastname@example.org
To read the call for work in English and Spanish (including the full text of my essay in English and Spanish) and learn more about the zine, visit elgenerocomocollage.wordpress.com.
Please note that this call is open to anyone who feels addressed by it, regardless of gender; the word “women” in the essay title does not attempt to be universal, but particular.
I wrote an essay on cancer metaphors that started as a review of Beth Murray's transcendent Cancer Angel. "Against Battles" is published by ENDPAIN with beautiful illustrations by Lilli Carre.
